The Certificate in Health Economics consists of assigned readings from health economics textbooks and journals, pre-recorded online lectures and activities, case studies, online assessments, and a final project completed by each student. The first four days will consist of online lectures, supplemented by pre-scheduled live Adobe Connect sessions with the certificate instructor. On the fifth day, participants will congregate in-person at the FIU campus and deliver a presentation of their final project.

  • Apply microeconomic concepts to analyze current trends in healthcare and health insurance markets
  • Use information from cost-benefit and cost-effectiveness analyses to explain managerial and policy decisions
  • Evaluate the efficiency of healthcare markets and healthcare policies

Certificate Directors

Timothy F. Page, Ph.D. joined the faculty of the Department of Health Policy and Management in 2008 after completing a Ph.D. in economics at the University of New Hampshire. His research areas include health economics, health policy and program evaluation, econometric modeling and data analysis, and economic evaluation of patient outcomes and healthcare costs.

Alejandro Arrieta, Ph.D. has served as principal investigator, co-investigator and consultant for several studies assessing cost-benefit and cost-effectiveness analysis. His research areas include economic evaluation of chronic diseases, over-utilization and quality of care, and maternal care quality.
